    Notes:

Rick Orval Hoskin, 66, beloved son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on September 23, 2023. He left this world surrounded by his family and loved ones following a sudden, unexpected illness.

Rick was born September 16, 1957, in Seattle, Washington to Ronald Astle Hoskin and Dona Jean Pennington. He was the second of six children. Raised in Idaho, he spent his formative years laboring on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work, determination, and selflessness. From milking cows to tending the fields and assisting his father in every endeavor, Rick embodied the essence of a true laborer.

His pursuit of excellence extended to his academic endeavors, where he shone brightly as a scholar and athlete. He excelled in high school, participating in cross country, basketball, and track, ultimately earning the distinction of Valedictorian. His commitment to both faith and community was evident through his achievements as an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Duty to God award.

Driven by a profound sense of purpose, Rick embarked on a mission to Bristol, England, representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This experience shaped his character and deepened his spiritual foundation.

When Rick returned he fell in love with Camilla Renee Harding. On May 24, 1979, Rick and Cammy were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they raised five children and fifteen grandchildren who will carry on his legacy. He and Cammy were a power couple and Rick loved her dearly. Rick and Cammy enjoyed doing things together. You could always find them planning their next camping adventure through the many beautiful national parks. The Tetons and Yellowstone were a yearly adventure where Rick enjoyed photographing the wildlife and mountain areas. Rick was an avid gardener and used his engineering skills to simplify the process. His yard, shop and garage were always organized, clean and full of every tool required for service to others.

His passion for welding engineering led him to Ricks College, now BYU Idaho, where he earned a degree that set the stage for an illustrious career. He furthered his education at Utah State University, attaining a degree in engineering and later an MBA. Throughout his professional journey, Rick remained a beacon of industriousness. His tenure at Thiokol, ATK, Northrop Grumman spanned many years, during which he displayed unparalleled dedication and expertise. His passion involved the development of rockets and we often joked, “this doesn’t require a rocket scientist,” even if it did.

Yet, his heart never strayed far from the land he loved. Whether tending to his yard, cultivating his thriving garden, or lending a hand to neighbors in need, Rick found solace and purpose in the simple joys of life. His love never left the farm life he grew up on. He could often be found working on his John Deere tractor whether in the yard or removing snow from many of the neighborhood driveways.

An active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rick served in various capacities, culminating in his role as a Service Missionary and ordinance worker in the Logan Temple. His faith was not a mere belief but a lived experience, shaping his interactions with others and infusing every aspect of his life.

Rick found immense joy in cheering for the USU Football team each fall and supporting his cherished grandchildren in their pursuits. His knack for handiwork was renowned, as he readily undertook projects for family, friends, and neighbors, his skills were a reliable source of assistance and comfort.

Rick was known for his Christ-like charitable acts of service to family, friends and neighbors. He taught his family to work hard, believe in God, and be honorable to the Hoskin family name. Rick loved his family and had a unique gift of knowing the individual, what they needed and how to show up for them. Though Rick was often thought of as proper, he never missed an opportunity to use his quick wit and make you laugh with his funny, dry sense of humor. He was genuine in all he did and said.

Rick is survived by his wife: Camilla Renee Harding; five children: Natalie Day, Amy (Scott) Jensen, Tyler (Krystle) Hoskin, Ryan (Tawny) Hoskin, and Jessica (Brett) Killpack; his mother: Dona Jean; siblings: Ronda, Ranae, Rachelle, Robyn and Guiliana. Rick and Cammy were married for 44 years. They have 15 beloved grandchildren. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Astle Hoskin.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregiving staff at Logan Regional Hospital and the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City for their compassionate care during Rick’s final days. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate written heartfelt memories of Rick to help his legacy live on and his posterity remember him.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 29th, 11:00am at the Providence South Stake Center, 360 East 450 North, Millville, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, 6:00-8:00pm, Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah; and Friday, 9:30-10:30am at the Stake Center, prior to service. Those unable to attend are invited to view a tribute video of Rick here. Interment to follow at the Providence City Cemetery.

“No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude, and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God.” ~ Orson F. Whitney
