- Shirley (Capace) Erickson, R.N., 95, formerly of Harmony Court, Warwick, and East Greenwich, passed away peacefully at Sunny View Nursing Home on May 23, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph "Swede" Erickson, to whom she was married for 61 years.
Born in Providence on July 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Ethel A. (Terbriggen) Capace.
Mrs. Erickson was a 1943 graduate of RI Hospital School of Nursing, and was a registered nurse at Women & Infants Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1983.
She was the devoted mother of David Erickson and his wife Barbara of Warwick, Richard Erickson of Warwick, Nancy Rotenberg and her husband Harold of West Warwick, and Donna (Brown) Erickson. She was the loving grandmother of Jason Rotenberg and his wife Andrea, Jaime Thomas and her husband Jason, Sara Rotenberg, Lindsay Sasso and her husband David, Courtney James and her husband Adam, Richard Erickson, Jr. and his wife Kristy, Robert Erickson, and the late Ryan Erickson. She is survived by the smiling faces of her great-grandchildren, Carly, Jeremy, Andrew, Meredith, Ryan, AJ, Avari, Eric, Nathan and Brianna. She leaves a niece, Marcia Donovan, and was the sister of the late Arline Vernet. Shirley was grateful for the happiness and many friendships she made at Brookdale Greenwich Bay, where she lived until her recent illness.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, May 26, at 11 a.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited, and may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
