Elders L. Nilson and Anderson arrived in Gothenburg and a council meeting was held in the evening. On the 3rd was fast day, and we received a proclamation from Zion for a Reformation which we accepted. The 4th of May again in the police court on behalf of my sister-in-law, 8 day respite again, in the evening we held a council meeting. The 5th, Elders L. Nilson and Anderson left Gothenburg for the city of Lidkoping, and Elder Mathias Nilsson left for Copenhagen. On the 12th, I was called for trial before the clergy in the Cathedral.

On the 15th, Bishop Dean Wieselgren (Wisselgren) called me and Elders Dufvander, Johanson and Berntsson to the Cathedral and held a meeting that lasted 3 hours. Censured our Doctrine to the lowest degree, which insulted our people to a fighting condition and the Brethren had to flee for protection. Elder Dufvander was hurt, the police had to lock me in a store room for protection against the mob. On the 16th, I was on trial, Police Officer Mr. Lang in charge. On the 17th, we held an outdoor meeting. The 18th, on trial before Minister Wieselgren, but we drew the short straw and were released. The 19th, in police court on trial concerning the mob violence in the church, and some discovery was made who had struck Elder Dufvander violently. One August Carlson and one Mr. Thoren, both working men, were arrested and charged with assault and battery and their trials were set for the 26th of May. On the 22nd, my son Axel Birger died, and I visited several places arranging for burial of my son. The 23rd, I and several of the Brethren and a lady in court. I was fined 100 Kronor for I had opened my own home for meetings. Also, several of the Brethren and one Sister were fined 100 Kronor each. The 24th, a prayer meeting was held in Majorna, in the afternoon a meeting was held in the mountains near Göteborg. The 25th, a workingman Mr. Johan Ludvig Gustafsson asked to be baptized. The 26th of May I was called to the police court concerning the mob violence in the church, could not attend the burial of my son.

The 30th was fast day and we held a meeting in the mountains. June 4th, I received a whipping from a person by the name Peterson for preaching the gospel to him. The 7th, sacrament meeting was held in the mountains. The 9th of June I started on foot for the city of Jönköping, the county seat of the Supreme Court. We had all appealed to that Tribunal for a rehearing of the judgment in the lower court against us. I started at 6 o'clock in the evening, walked the whole night and came to Alingsas at 7:30 a.m. Came to Eklanda, there I took the bus for Ljung. From there I walked to Hagna, obtained lodging for the night. Continued my travel on the 11th I arrived at Leshester, raining all day. A farmer picked me up and gave me a ride and treated me to coffee. The 12th, bus ride to the city of Jönköping and left my papers in the Court. Left the city and returned walking, a young man picked me up, and I rode with him 3 Swedish miles. The 13th, walking the whole day and quite a long time during the night, when I entered a hay barn and rested there a while. The 14th, I continued my walk day and night and on the 15th, I arrived in Göteborg. Everything well and sound with me. A meeting was held in the mountains on the 21st of June.

July 1st, was called in before the arch bishop of the Lutheran church for questioning. In the afternoon I went to priesthood meeting. Sister Lindberg was excommunicated from the church. Sister Jansson was charged with transgression of the sixth commandment, she cried and promised repentance and was forgiven. When I had gone to bed, a Doctor Wieselgren came and asked if we had held meeting. To the question, I answered yes. He asked if we had had any visions or revelations, and was very blasphemous in his talk. The 4th, the police called me to the Arch Bishop for investigation, and after that to the police court to answer for the mob violence in the church. The 8th of July, I was called for the 3rd time before the Arch Bishop, and was told that this was the last time, and if I did not give up my erroneous opinion, then I should be delivered to the law and get a jail sentence, and also said that they had no more to do with me, and I said farewell, then I left for the Police court trial concerning the mob violence in the church sometime previous. The trial was postponed until the 23rd of this month when they would hear the witnesses. On the 9th, Elder Widerborg and wife arrived from Stockholm. On the 10th, priesthood meeting was held in Brother Wretberg's home. I was ordained to the office of Priest and Brother Samuel Johansson Dufvander ordained to a Teacher, Elder Widerborg left for Copenhagen. The 19th, held a council and an open meeting. The 22nd, police court concerning the mob violence trial. On the 26th, in meeting, then I wrote and explanation to the Supreme Court concerning policeman Lang's demand, that the fine imposed on Brothers Berntsson and Wretberg should not be raised, also the same Lang's trouble over Brothers C. F. Olsson's and A. Lundeberg's acquittal in the police court.

On the 4th of August 1857, I started work as a carpenter and received 2 Kronor per day, never before had I worked as a carpenter. The 9th, Elder Olson arrived from Stockholm, 2 men Bergstedt and Callerstrom were baptized. The 11th, at priesthood meeting, Elder Rasmus Berntsson was sent to Uddevalla on a mission. Teacher Samuel Johansson Dufvander was ordained to Elder, Lars Gustaf Brattstrom (Broström) to Teacher. Brother R. Kellerstrom (Collerström) to Deacon, Sister Jansson was cut of from the church for transgression of the 6th commandment. The 15th, Brother Gustafsson sent a letter to Elder Nilsson requesting to be cut off from the church. The 16th, a meeting was held in Masthugget, some ruffians had gathered, starting to throw some rocks and boulders at the people. One Sister Brattstrom (Broström) when leaving the meeting was hit by a rock.
