Full Text: FIRST IMMIGRATION TRAIN.-We had the pleasure of meeting Col. T[homas]. E. Ricks on Monday, he having come into the city in advance of his train of immigrants, which camped at Grass Creek on Sunday night. The Colonel was well and hearty, and truly glad to be "home" again. His train had a very capital trip from the Missouri. There were six deaths in the company on the journey, but those who died have been much worn down by sickness before starting to cross the plains. Br. Ricks started back on Monday afternoon to meet his train, which was hourly expected as we went to press.
The following are the names of those who died: Benjamin Meek, from Weston, Herefordshire, England; Susannah Cook, from Throckmorton, Worcestershire; Mary J. Cunnington, from Oakham, Rutlandshire; Sarah Jane, infant daughter of W[illiam]. L[eigh]. and M[argaret]. Charlotte Astle, 77, completed her long goodbye and bid her final farewell as she slipped the bonds of earth on October 9, 2023, in Hyde Park, UT surrounded in love by her children.
She was born Charlotte Christina Poulson on March 18, 1946, in Provo, UT. She was the third and youngest child of Virginia Bird Booth and Leo Alma Poulson. She graduated from Orem High School in 1964 and attended Utah Trade Technical School At Provo, graduating in 1966 with a Certificate in Dental Assisting. She then attended Utah State University where she met her sweetheart, Dale Astle. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 8, 1967. They lived in Logan UT, Los Angeles CA, and Orem UT before permanently settling in Providence UT to raise their family.
Charotte wanted nothing more than to be a mother. She adored her children and supported them in all they did. She led in Cub Scouts and 4-H, joined the PTA, and served in Primary. She drove to practices and games and performances at all hours and in all weather. She was talented and creative. She sewed Halloween costumes and prom dresses and easter bonnets. She produced cross-stich and baby blankets. She taught her children how to make the best chocolate chip cookies in the world and made award winning pies. She worked at the Adult Day Center at Sunshine Terrace when it first opened as a CNA, lovingly providing her clients dignity of life in their twilight. She loved her community.
She served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She threw herself into decorating for the holidays and hosting family meals. She took pride in her yard and grew beautiful flowers. In retirement she and Dale travelled often and spent as much time doting over their grandchildren as they could, welcoming each addition with joyful abandon as the family grew. She loved her grandchildren almost more than her children and delighted in each and every one of them.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lynn, and husband. She will be grieved by her four children, Cathie (Shane) Parker of Logan, Robert (Aleena) Astle of River Heights, Christina (Royce) Beal of Bear River City, and James (Jeannie) Astle of Millville. 10 Grandchildren Chayden (Jaiden), Leo, Ethan, McKelty, Ryan, David, Alex, Wyatt, Cassidy, and Jacob and 2 great-grandchildren, Jacklynn and Nolan, and her sister, Karma Swain.
The family would like to express thanks for the loving and professional care the staff of Autumn Care Assisted Living and Memory Care provided Charlotte over the past year and Symbii Hospice for their exceptional service during the last months of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, a date she would have heartly approved of, at the Fox Ridge Ward House 155 N 100 E Providence, UT. Visitation for family and friends will be held that same day from 10:00 -11:30 prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at the Providence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the University of Utah Aging Brain Care Program. | POULSON, Charlotte Christina (I11014)

Dr. Reynolds attending physician; cause of death - broncho pneumonia
“On Nov. 22, 1827, in Georgetown, Madison Co. N.Y., there came to earth the spirit of Mary L. Stewart, which
was permitted for more than four score years to wear its fleshy garment. Having spent the years of her childhood
and young womanhood amid the scenes of her birth, at the age of twenty-two, she became the bride of Orange W.
Baker, a resident of Lebanon, N.Y.
During their period of residence at the latter place, two children, Carlton S. and Lillian Florence were
born. The daughter died Feb 16, 1890, while the earthly companionship of the son was spared the mother until June
12, 1910.
In 1867, the family removed from Lebanon, N.Y.; to a farm near Grant Park, Ill. Two years after the death of
the husband, at this place in 1894, a second removal was made when in 1896, residence was taken up in Story City,
Iowa. Three years later, she traveled eastward and settled at Raymond, Union County, Ohio, where she dwelt until
six weeks before her death, when she removed to Defiance, Ohio, to make her home with her only grandchild, Mrs.
A.G. Caris.
During her life at Lebanon, N.Y., she was a member of the Congregational Church. Upon her removal to Grant
Park, she became a charter member of the Baptist Church of that place. This membership was later removed to
Ames, Iowa.
On athe first day of October 1910, her spirit freed of its mortal limitations, took on a larger existence,
although it left behind it those whose hearts with sorrow break, none would call back from the gates of heaven,
the soul whose earthly pilgrimage is done. The high order of her intelligence, the nobility of her ideals, and
the loving kindness of her heart have left impressions which will last throughout eternity. | STEWART, Mary Lucinda (I6481)
